Ninja Man Remanded As Murder Trial Begins

Dancehall artist Ninja Man has been remanded into police custody after a high court judge ordered that the murder trial involving the entertainer finally begin after eight years of delays.

On Tuesday afternoon the veteran entertainer, whose real name is Desmond Ballentine, had his bail revoked by Justice Martin Gayle when he appeared in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston.

In 2009 the former Downsound Records artist and his son, Janeil, and another man, Dennis Clayton, were charged with the shooting death of Ricardo Johnson who was gunned down in the Waltham Park area earlier that year.
Justice Gayle passed the ruling for the entertainer’s trial to finally begin despite applications from attorneys representing the three men appealing for a stay of proceedings for abuse of process.
